Breadcrumbs from Big Pharma’s $8 billion settlement.

Here’s what I learned.

In every situation, there’s a lesson to be learned. The situation can be good — when no one gets hurt. The situation can be bad — lots of people get hurt and there’s an impact that’s far reaching.

That’s the foundation for one of the largest pharmaceutical companies being in the headlines. The announcement that this company is responsible for paying an $8 billion settlement with quite a few stipulations due to the lives lost, accusations of wrongdoing and widespread financial misconduct. In hearing about this case a few years back and this recent update, there are seven things I learned along the way that apply to life and career.

  • Do no harm

No matter what your path is, be sure that whatever you do doesn’t bring harm to others. Doctors take the Hippocratic oath, lawyers take an oath to take a similar oath and so on. As a matter of fact the “elders” say “don’t bother what doesn’t bother you”. You can follow your dreams while not taking away another person’s. Today, a lot of people suffer from FOMO (fear of missing out) which can sometimes cause harm. This company while being accused of and proven guilty probably started out wanting to provide help to those needing pain relief.
