Hey beautiful people! So I’ve heard through the grapevine (or rather, a recent survey) that about 56% of us are ready to step out and explore new job horizons this year. Now, even though the world seems like it’s in a season finale of “Insecure” with the pandemic, layoffs, and a less-than-ideal economic situation, we’re still looking for something better, especially for my folks in underrepresented groups. Let’s talk about why this is happening and how you can slide into the job market, making sure you’re getting recruited rather than shooting off applications into the void.

### **The Job Market Shake-Up — What’s the 411?**

Here’s the tea on why folks are shaking up the career tree:

**1. The Great Reshuffle:** The pandemic hit us like a plot twist in a season finale and now we’re reevaluating everything — work-life balance, satisfaction, compensation. We’re out here looking for something better.

**2. Your Living Room is Your Office:** Remote work has broken down geographic barriers. You could be in LA, ATL, or even the moon as long as you have good Wi-Fi!

**3. Show Me The Money:** Yahoo! Money spilled the tea that people who change jobs could earn up to 12% more than those who stay put. Who doesn’t like the sound of more money?

### **Standing Out When It Feels Like the World is Sitting Down**

Now, standing out in this job market is like trying to get noticed at a crowded day party. It’s tough, especially with the economic drama. But here’s how you can make your mark:

**1. Glow Up Online:** Your online presence is like your professional outfit. Spruce up that LinkedIn profile and let your achievements strut their stuff.

**2. Flex Those Skills:** You’ve worn many hats in your career. Show how those transferable skills you’ve collected along the way make you the perfect fit for their team.

**3. Custom Fit:** Tailor your resume and cover letter to each job — like a custom-fit outfit, it stands out.

**4. Your Squad Can Boost You Up:** Your network can be your launchpad. Let them know you’re ready for new opportunities.

**5. Never Stop Learning:** Show potential employers you’re all about growth and bettering yourself.

### **Get Recruited, Don’t Just Apply**

But what about getting recruiters to slide into your DMs instead of sending out applications? Here’s the plan:

**1. LinkedIn is Your Runway:** Make sure your LinkedIn profile is polished and always up-to-date. Recruiters are always scouting for talent here.

**2. Your Personal Brand is Your Beacon:** Create a strong personal brand that shows what you can bring to a company. This will help attract recruiters.

**3. Make Some Noise:** Publish articles, share insightful posts, participate in relevant online discussions. Make sure you’re visible and heard in your industry.

**4. Connect with Recruiters:** Follow and engage with recruiters and hiring managers in your industry. Show them you’re interested and available.

Remember, it’s not just about finding a job. It’s about finding the right job where you feel valued, seen, and heard. It may take some resilience and a whole lot of self-confidence, but if anyone can do it, it’s you. So, let’s get out there and secure the bag!
