It was February 1989…I was doing Jane Fonda workouts everyday🏃🏾‍♀️👟🏃🏾‍♀️…I was always looking for ways to “fit into my body”. It was a constant reminder of what I was not…nice and relatively smart but not a part of the “in crowd”. I told myself it didn’t matter anyway because I couldn’t do the things they did socially not go to places they went. #limitingbeliefs overload

I adapted to life as it was. I had and still to this day have great friends with parents that thought the same so we were in this sort of society of kids who want to “do the most” with parents who wouldn’t let them live😫😫😫.

However, rounding out Junior year I began to “come into my own… “

Nonetheless, Friday night lights, Saturdays at the mall, Weekend plans of any fun kind…Were all a “hard no” for Pat.😳

In fact the conversation went something like this..

Me: “Mommy can I go….?”

Mommy: “Gal go study yuh lesson…cho…’bout yuh wan go mall… damn foolishness…”

“Anyting. yuh ah look fah pon di road wi find. yuh….”🙃

These were some of the most profound words that my mom ever shared with me.

If you ask her today, she probably won’t remember this interaction.😏
