Today Is #BlackGirlDayOff… But Here I Am, Still Working

--

I wish I could say I took the day to rest, recharge, and truly honor #BlackGirlDayOff the way it’s meant to be celebrated. But the reality is, the work didn’t stop just because today was supposed to be for me. There are deadlines to meet, emails to answer, and tasks that don’t wait — even when we need a break.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of the career I’ve built and the business I’ve grown with Career Nomad. But at the end of the day, I’m still working that 9-to-5 grind. Some days, it feels like I’m trying to do it all — run a business, coach clients, be there for my family, and still show up for myself. And days like today remind me that the balance I’m striving for isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a necessity.

Black women deserve rest. We deserve moments where we can pause without the weight of responsibility pressing down on us. But until we get to that point, I’m reminding myself to carve out pockets of time, even if it’s just 10 minutes, to breathe and acknowledge that I’m doing my best.

For my fellow Black women out here who had to power through today, I see you. I feel you. And I’m cheering for you. Let’s keep striving for a reality where #BlackGirlDayOff doesn’t just mean a day marked on the calendar, but a day we can actually take for ourselves. Until then, let’s keep pushing, supporting each other, and building toward that balance we deserve.
